Surjit Nongmeikapam
Surjit Nongmeikapam is a choreographer, performing artist, and cultural practitioner based in Imphal, Manipur. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Choreography from the Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography. As one of the few contemporary dance practitioners working in Manipur, his practice engages critically with the region’s dominant traditional performance frameworks, seeking to expand contemporary movement discourse within and beyond Manipuri cultural contexts.
As the Artistic Director of the Nachom Arts Foundation, Surjit is invested in developing a sustainable contemporary dance ecology in Manipur through artistic production, pedagogy, and institutional engagement. His choreographic methodology approaches movement as both a site of critical inquiry and a transformative, healing practice, contributing to contemporary performance discourse in Northeast India and transnational contexts.
